Turrets operate the same way as any mounted weapon, but requires at least another player to use them, while leaving the driver/pilot at full control of the main vehicle.
Grand Theft Auto Online saw the introduction of mounted turrets in the Heists Update, available for the Technical, the Insurgent Pick-Up and the Valkyrie. In addition, targeting reticles are adjusted with the same settings as for hand-held weapons, using either the regular dot reticle or the advanced one available for each class of hand-held weapons (using a rangefinding-like reticle for tank cannons). Grand Theft Auto V retains the advanced aiming mechanic from previous games, but the addition of targeting reticles make armed vehicles easier to operate against a target. In Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, aiming is a bit easier thanks to the touchpad functionality of platforms like the Nintendo DS, along with marked lines to denote the direction of the gun. However, the lack of a targeting reticle difficult the aiming on vehicles like the Annihilator and the Buzzard. In Grand Theft Auto IV and Episodes From Liberty City, the aiming mechanic is the same as in GTA San Andreas, being used on the Fire Truck and the APC. In Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, the aiming mechanic is simplified with the use of the camera control, making it a bit easier to adjust the angle of attack, though it still required some aiming skill due to the lack of a targeting reticle, especially on vehicles like the Hunter and the Hydra. However, they required some skill, as they lack a targeting reticle. In the 2D Universe and most 3D Universe games, vehicles like the Fire Truck, the Tank and the Rhino require extra command inputs to turn the mounted weapon to the left or the right to properly aim. The water cannon is not technically considered a mounted weapon, but its characteristics as an extra feature, the ability to harm pedestrians (albeit causing very low damage) and the ability to gain police attention still defines it as such in the GTA universe. The most common examples are machine guns, tank cannons and mounted rockets. There are light-firepower weapons suited for rapid engagements, accuracy and close combat against small enemy groups, as well as heavy-firepower weapons suited against numerous enemy groups and vehicular destruction. It should be noted that if the vehicle is destroyed, the weapon becomes unusable. These weapons generally disable hand-held weapons for Drive-By Shooting, but makes up for being stronger and having infinite ammo (in most cases). Vehicle-mounted weapons can be represented as any device incorporated in a vehicle that can be activated to shoot any kind of harming element, usually a projectile.
